World Geography is presented as a science in which the physical, cultural, political, economic, and historical components of the subject are studied. Characteristics of the world's regions and subregions, along with the interrelationship between environment and culture, are examined. Emphasis is placed on the development of map and globe skills, chart and graph interpretation, and critical thinking skills. Also, current events are used to study world problems.

The eleventh grade Virginia Standards of Learning will be covered during the course. Virginia and United States History will focus on political and economic history and provide students with a basic knowledge of American culture through a chronological survey of major issues, movements, people, and events in United States, Virginia, and local history.

Local History and Technology is an elective course which covers Bland County History, the management of the Bland County History Archives, and the integration of a wide range of computer skills in this process. A cross platform of the Wintel and MAC operating systems will be used during the course. Computer skills employed will include telecommunications, web site creation, multimedia, scanning and OCR software, graphics, word processing, databases, and desktop publishing. Real life issues will be dealt with in real time. The student, upon completion of Local History and Technology, will have a knowledge of Bland County History, a full range of computer skills, and organizational and information management experience.
