The focus of Introduction to Family and Human Services is practical problem solving, research, critical thinking, and career decision making. Professional opportunities within the cluster of health, human, and public service are identified and analyzed. Career investigation includes the areas of elder and intergenerational care services as well as family and social services. Teachers will incorporate the skills of math, science, written and oral communication, and computer applications when appropriate in the content. Note: This transition focus course must be combined with family focus or work focus courses to make an approved concentration sequence.

Students enrolled in the hospitality, tourism, and recreation course focus on hospitality operations on a system-wide basis, including both travel arrangements and promotion and the provision of traveler facilities. The program includes instruction in principles of operation of travel and tourism, hotel and lodging facilities, food services, and recreation facilities industries; hospitality marketing strategies; and industry policies and regulations. Teachers highlight the basic skills of mathematics, science, and communications when appropriate in the content. Note: This transition focus course must be combined with family focus or work focus courses to make an approved concentration sequence.
