The Great Auk
The Great Auk (also known as Knowledge Master Open) is not just a mere trivia contest. There are 200 challenging questions requiring high-level thinking and covers fourteen curriculum areas (American History, World History, Government, Recent Events, Economics & Law, Geography, Literature, English, Math, physical Science, Biology, Earth Science, Health & Psychology, Fine Arts, and Useless Trivia). There is in no sure-fire way to study any portion of the test, it is just general knowledge and skill.
The competition of the Great Auk involves more than 54,000 students. Students from all 50 states are represented, as well as several schools from foreign lands.
Rocky Gap High School has always done extremely well in the Knowledge Open Master. This years competition was on December 2, and Rocky Gaps Team consisted of eight participants: Misty Balas, Richard Beers, J.C. Belcher, Erik Compton, Georgia Dodson, Holly Smith, Eric Thompson, and Tonia White.
